Grand Theft Bloggo: Part 1

Grand Theft Bloggo- Part 1

So I get up this morning, do my usual routine. After the morning chores, I checked on my blog, to see the stats and comments that may have come in overnight. I noticed there was a comment in the spam filter. The name of the sender looked a little weird, so I checked out the site it linked back to. Lo and behold, it turns out that this particular site posted my blog from yesterday. But this wasn’t a cool shout-out kind of thing. They simply did a “cut and paste” and re-appropriated my complete post, without crediting me or my blog. Not cool.

I won’t post the URL, because I don’t want to give them any more hits. Also, I don’t know much about this site, so I don’t want to direct my peeps to a place that may be nefarious. Regardless, I already gleaned some info from a cursory look around there. They are on a WordPress.org site, so they are running their own host. This means I can’t simply complain to the WordPress.com people. Regardless, this is not the end.

I have two things to say right now:

  1. To the blogging community– Check your spam filters regularly and carefully. Sometimes you just get innocuous spam comments, but you never know when it is something like this and someone has stolen your stuff (and stupidly let their site ping back to you)
  2. To those that stole my post– Nothing is truly anonymous on the Internet. You can’t get away with this. I am not a coding genius like Mark Zuckerberg, or skilled like the old school hackers the Masters of Destruction, or locked-in like those in Anonymous. Regardless, I know a lot of things, I know where the resources are, and I have friends, friends with interesting talents. You can’t run. You can’t hide. This will be dealt with.

“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you’re looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have, are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you…I will look for you, I will find you…”
